DIETING AS WELL EXERCISE?

I would suggest that you go and speak to your GP, explain the problem to him and see what advise he comes up with. He may well refer you to a specialist at your local hospital.

I think your idea of a diet(follow the food pyramid) and personal trainer is great. A personal trainer will guide you through everything…. what to eat, the right exercises, how hard to push yourself.
Surgery sounds scary. I know that some people have died because of gastric bypass surgery. It’s not guaranteed that the weight will stay off.
You can totally do it. I’ve been exercising and eating smarter and have lost 35 lbs. so far this year. It’s hard and gets boring after awhile, but I do feel better and have more energy. I started out slow and picked up the intensity when I felt ready.

Just try eating less everyday. It is all about calories. 85% of weight loss is based on what we eat more than what we exercise. But exercise do help too coz muscle burns more calories than fat does. Anyway, try eating 1400cals a day. I dont suggest gastric bypass surgery. Exercise more often. Dont believe on those quick fixes. Try to eliminate white sugar, high fructose corn syrup and those simple sugars and replace them with organic sugar, it will really help alot. Eat more veggies (you will never be wrong with this) and more fruits. Do it in a healthy way.

You should always see surgery as a last resort, as it’s expensive and a ‘bandaid solution’.
Rather than see it as a diet you should see it as a lifestyle change… you don’t have to totally stop eating the foods you like, just have them in smaller amounts and less often. It’s all about changing how you think about food and exercise.

I’d say surgerey. I don’t know the difference between the 2 but i wish you luck.
because diet and exercise would take a long time and with all that weight putting pressure on your organs and joints.

In order to be approved for Gastric Bypass surgery, you have to be able to show the surgeon that you have had several years of unsuccessful dieting, you must see a nutritionist, you must have a psych eval. Have you checked to see if your insurance covers Gastric Bypass? Otherwise, it’s a $25000 surgery out of pocket. Don’t forget about the loose skin that must be removed afterwards. Most insurances do not cover skin removal and that is a $15,000 surgery.
The risks are minimal but at your age I would urge you to seek the advice of a good Bariatric surgeon. List every diet you have been on, how long youwere ont he diet and how much weight you lost with each diet. They will not be impressed if you’ve been on 20 diets but only stuck with each diet for a week. Take the list with you to the surgeon. A surgeon will not do this surgery on someone who has not tried to lose the weight on thier own. The surgery requires reat, great will power. You can go through all this and STILL overeat, stretch the pouch and pop the staples. I’ve known it to happen to many people. The surgery can be a miracle, it was for me.
I was overweight for 20 years. I packed on the pounds at the age of 11 and went through many years of sheer hell as the “normal” world made fun of me. I had Gastric Bypass surgey in Oct 2007 and never looked back. I’m 5’8. I weighed 298 the day of my surgery and 8 months later, I’m 117 pounds lights. I wore a 24/26 and now I wear a 12/14 and I’m losing everyday. It can be very hard to stick to the Gastric Bypass diet. No sugar, low carb, high protien. Tuna just doesn’t taste as good as chocolate but you have to have the will power to say no. The good thing abot the surgery is that you will no longer feel hunger. However, the mental urger to eat will always be there.

Ok, let’s get on the same level. I’m a 20 year old female that has dealt with weight issues since I was 9. I’ve tried everything from restricted diets, hard exercise playing, sports and almost everything and anything doctors and health books suggest, and I didn’t lose a thing, I only gained. My turning point came when I thought I was out of the woods with my weight problems when I saw a nutritionist on a regular bases, but thing in my life took a nasty turn when I had to return home from collage and could not fit my special lifestyle into my home style. I became very depressed and gained over 30lbs, making me 295lbs, no matter how hard I tried to stick to my previous lifestyle. After a lot of thinking, and many Big Medicine episodes later, I decided to go with surgery. Now I ‘m not telling you that surgery is your only option you may be able to eat 4-5 small meals a day and work out 4-6 times a week and get that one big meal every so often, it can be done because my dad was able to do it and he feels great! But when you don’t have access to food or transportation to get you to where you need to go its kind of hard, really hard. The Lap-Band was my first choice I wanted so bad seeing that all it did was make you feel fuller sooner making you stop eating sooner instead of over eating. Great idea right, well the problem is if you are not disciplined enough you WILL find away to eat out of your band, pop your band, or stretch your stomach all over again. I yes I know about this because my grandmother ,my dads mother, after having the band for almost a year has popped her band quite recently and must go under again to have it removed and maybe get another one, who knows but she did lose about 70lbs before she did that. ^_^; So I gave up on getting the lap- band provide that it just got approved by insurance recently, I deiced that I was going to go and get Roux en Y Gastric Bypass. If you go this direction you will find that there are two gastric bypasses Roux en Y and Sleeve aka mini bypass. Both are highly effective in weight loss and are also recommenced by doctors for young ppl like you and I, because these tools help establish good eating habits that we can use thought out our lives and live long and healthy lives. I went though with the surgery July 23 and boy was a scared, because with gastric bypass there are risks like everything that requires you to modify you body, but I knew that in the end that I would able to start on a journey that will allow me to eat less and if it’s not good for my body my body will let me know (dumping). I kind of like theses types of surgeries because they are like shock therapy, if you eat the wrong things you will feel it and won’t forget it. But if you are not prone to this kind of disciple you run the risk of blowing you staple line, re-stretching your stomach, or making your self really sick and killing yourself. I’ve been living with this kind of fear since I’ve been home but slowly I’m retraining myself to eat and to slow down and not to inhale foods and since it’s barely been a week since I’ve been back home I’m having a lot of struggles but I know with the support of my friends and family I will get through this and that’s the most thing to remember, support. Without support you might as well as give up on any hopes of effective and life fulfilling weight loss because without it you will just give up instead of having that pain in the ass, like my dad, kick you in the **** and say keep going, or that soothing gentle touch, from my mother and her friends, that says you can do this we will do this with you. All of this is important. Just to keep in mind though what ever you choose remember its all reversible and you can start over again. So don’t just think you can only do one and if you fail you will never lose weight just give it a try and eventually you will find something that will help your body lose weight. Take care and good luck with what ever you choose to do.
