I think they recommend you not get pregnant for about five years after surgery. Be sure that she talks to her doctor about it.

Yes risky I agree. With a smaller, stapled stomach, I would think the baby would risk being malnourished.

My friend had the gastric bypass surgery and was told to wait 6 years after the surgery to have a baby….she did and even then she had so many complications and couldnt carry the baby full term… however if your sister is already pregnant then there isnt much that can be done, but wish her good luck that all works out

Yes, I did some research because I was considering having the surgery. Plus, my mom had a form of the gastric bypass and went on to have two kids. If you are really nervous and worried about your sister, sit down and talk them out with her. It will make you feel better and she will know how much you care.

not really she is in danger of miscarriage or of the baby lacking nutrients and being very ill she needs to be extremely care full if she can afford it i would get a nutritionist to be there full time aid to make meals and keep track of her levels

It is extra important for her to take prenatal vitamins with folic acid and to make certain that she is getting all the calcium, iron and other nutrients she needs from either her diet or from supplementation. With proper nutrition, women can have healthy babies after gastric bypass.

it’s okay, stomach is not so near the womb.

She shoudl be prepared to have an elective c-section, as its unadvisable to have a natural delivery after gastric bypass surgery because of the risk of rupturing the bypass.
She will need a lot of monitoring, but she should be ok.
She will be taking multivitamins anyway so she should be able to support the growing foetus.

I had gastric bypass 18 years ago and have a perfectly normal, healthy 14 month old. I consulted with my doc. and he assured me there are no risks to gastric bypass and pregnancy other then you may gain your weight back. BTW–I gained 50lbs and lost it all within a year.

Yes, it is riskythat soon after the surgery. She should contact her ob/gyn immediately. The biggest problem is that the baby will be shorted on nutrients.

I always wondered the same thing. I would think it would be harder to nursh the baby. I would say she needs to take extra vatinims as she can. Like fiber mixed in with water or food. They make them also her pills are very important. Also to eat lots of small meals and keep eats healthy stuff throught the day!

that does not sound like a good idea she sould talk to her doc.
