has anyone else had a bad experience with Mirena, the IUD contraceptive?

My Mirena is sitting right where it’s supposed tot be, but my friends’ also “got lost”.
The only problem I’ve had with the Mirena was with the placing: I passed out when they tried to place it, and they had to try a second time.

I obviously, being a man, have not had one, but my wife has had one for the past 6 years and it is the only birth control that she will use that does not have major side effects for her.

I haven’t had the IUD, but my sister in law had the EXACT same thing happen to her. Even down to having to be opened up more than once cause they didn’t know where it was for the laparoscopic surgery! She is the reason why I didn’t get the IUD. Hope everything turns out okay for you… She had to have a chunk of her colon removed because it had been in there for a LONG time.

The type of experience you went through is exactly what I was freaked out about when I first got one last month. It’s my first experience with an IUD of any kind. And thankfully, it’s gone a little smoother than you’ve had it, poor girl.

*OK, ALL MEN HIT THE DECKS, SERIOUS GIRL TALK COMIN’ IN!*

My negative experience mostly involves cramping. For the first 3 weeks or so I had regular, strong cramping. To the extent I was worried it had come loose and moved. Fortunately, my re-check showed everything was in place and ok. And since then the cramping has cleared up.

Now I’m waiting to see how my periods respond to all this newness. So far my period has been exxxxtra heavy and long (although it’s only been one period since it was placed). But after 2.5 weeks of menstruating I’m just about to pull my hair out! I’m seriously hoping that things even out and soon my periods will calm down.

I’m so sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience! Had your doctor ever seen anything like that before? I mean, they do warn you that a scenario like that is always possible. But I’m very sorry it happened to you. All my sympathy! :(

I did the research on it and saw what side effects there were and the dr. reassured me that everything would be fine, after all she has one!
When she inserted it my whole right side felt like it was being ripped! I told her about it and she just said that it felt like that sometimes. I was in terrible pain for the two months. I could hardly stand up straight. She got a little upset with me and told me that I probably had a cyst on my ovary that was causing the pain and asked me if I had been intimate with my husband yet? What? She asked if it was because I was bleeding, my answer was NO it’s because I am in so much pain!
However, the bleeding continued and I went in to be checked once again and she told me that everything was in place whew! It will be a year in March and for the past 3 months I have not had a cycle. My daughter in law was addressed to consider one and after she saw what I went through she told them to shove it!
Would I do it again, hell no!

Here is a data sheet — go down to contraindications and continue from there:

Google “mirena problems” and get an eyeful.
