If you are seriously thinking of doing it, please research it fully and find a doctor that has done a lot of them, successfully. My friend is very heavy, due to the medications she takes for all the illnesses she has. One doctor suggested she undergo gastric bypass surgery. He said the risks were small. However, three people in her parish had it done; two died of complications and one lost weight but she can only eat about a few teaspoons full of food at a time or she pukes. She doesn’t go out much anymore because she cannot eat. Get all the facts first. Your doctor should give you names of his prior patients that had good results. Talk to them about the pros and cons. The above mentioned people didn’t have to lose 150 pounds either.

My neighbor had bypass surgery performed by Kaiser Permanente here in Northern California. All candidates must take classes and are screened for an OK by a Psychiatrist. She has lost over 100 pounds thus far and hasn’t had any problems.

my daughters step mother of 17 yrs and mother of a 7yr old son had a lap band procedure Oct 12th 2006 on Oct 16th 2006 she died of complications. On Tuesday I went to the hospital to have a cat scan for kidney stones… while there i visited my brother who is an ER doc. For 45Min’s i watched as the staff worked feverishly to save a 40 yr old gastric bypass patient who And this is a direct quote”looked like she had a garden hose in the back of her throat spraying blood. They were able to get her stable enough for transport to a major trauma center … she died on the helicopter on the way there. She was the mother of 2…. please please don’t do it.

I know 4 or 5 people who have gotten it. Most have lost their wt. Some gain some back. You really need to be careful about what procedure you do and there is no easy way to do it. Your stomach is the size of your thumb after surgery and it is a complete change in lifestyle.
Second, I know of one person who is dying and another who had to have a shunt put in to be able to absorb vitamins.
Many types of surgery take out a huge portione of your intestines which make vitamin (an obviously food) absorbtion difficult.
Only have a procedure done that is reversible. The woman at work who is dying cant have it reversed and is now on disability because she can’t barely walk.
Now, I am sorry to scare you but please choose wisely. If you dont change your attitude about food and look at why you have gotten to your size, the more likely that in the long run the surgery will fail. Also, have the doctor run the sensitive thyroid test, which can effect your body’s ability to lose wt if your thyroid is slow.
Good Luck. Its a hard decision to make.

I know 3 people who have done it. All three have gained all of the weight back. You need to be commited to changing your lifestyle or the surgery will make no difference.

As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her Obesity surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps
