I would think if you tried to, you would be extremely hungry. The amount of food you are told to eat is such a small amount. People who have had gastric by pass have had their stomachs practicall removed, so they will feel full much sooner than some one who has not had the procedure.

I would say yes. After lap band, your stomach can only hold half a cup of food and drink.

Yes, you will loss weight. Is it healthy to stay on the pre-surgery diet it without surgery, I doubt it. The diet I was on before the surgery was so strict that I would think you would get sick for missing nutrients. However, I am not a nutritionist so I cannot say for sure.
What I do know is that I am just like you. I have been dieting since I was 5. Every diet I have ever had went the same way. I would do great for 6-9 months. I would loss up to 50 lbs. Then due to any number of reasons, I would fail. I would then gain all the weight back plus some. At my top weight, I was 490lbs. Yes, that is almost a quarter ton.
I was down (if you can call it down) to 467 when I had the band put in. It has been almost 6 month. I am down 87 lbs. Yes, there are day that I want treats and junk. That is not what the band control. It controls portions threw hunger control. A small amount of food is enough to fill me up now. Even when I fail and eat something I know I shouldn’t I can only eat a small amount, so that damage is smaller. Instead of eating a half-gallon of ice cream, a kid’s cone is enough.
Yes, it is important to eat right. If you don’t you may not lose weight as fast or not at all, but I have as of yet gained any weight back, once I lost it. I have never been able to lose more then 50 lbs dieting, and had it stay off, but now with the band, I do have hope that it will stay off.
Check out. They have a lot of great tips, both about weight loss surgery and weight loss in general. This website helped me decide what kind of surgery I wanted. I went with the band because I’m the kind of person that if a dangerous side effect is possible, I will end up having that problem. The band is 100% reversible and it is adjustable, unlike gastric bypass. That appealed to me.

You will lose weight by following the pre op and post op diets, but it could become a detriment to your health to continue for an extended period of time. The diets you are given are to prepare you for the surgery and to allow your system to adjust to what will become your future requirements. After the surgery you will be able to tolerate less food, therefore lose weight, but only if you use have to use your pouch as a tool, not a solution. You will need to watch what you eat after the surgery and be sure you are getting the proper vitamins and nutrients. Hopefully you are working with a nutritionist to help guide you through the process. I had the surgery almost 2 years ago and it has been a godsend. It is still hard work, but I use my pouch as a tool as I have been taught. Good luck to you.
